My Story

Dr. Mackenzie Johnston grew up in Haddonfield, New Jersey. When Dr. Johnston was 9 years old she had a pet mouse named Yoyo. She developed a large mass on her ear. Her family friend, a veterinarian, removed the mass. Yoyo lived another 2 years. In Dr. Johnston's 9-year-old mind, he was a superhero. Dr. Johnston has always aspired to be that for someone else. She loves animals so much, but she also loves the people who come with them. Dr. Johnston started in the kennel as an attendant and worked her way up to veterinary assistant, then technician, then head anesthesia and surgical technician while she was going to school.

Dr. Mackenzie Johnston went to undergrad at Rutgers and graduated Cum Laude and then went on to earn her Veterinarian Medicine degree from St. George's University. She completed her clinical year at Texas A&M.

When asked what is her favorite part of being a veterinarian Dr. Johnston said, "I have worked in the field for the past 12 years as a kennel attendant, assistant, technician, and now doctor so I have a very special place in my heart for veterinary medicine. It certainly is a special community. It is so hard to pick just one thing that brings me joy and satisfaction. I find that the love and passion from my colleagues and clients alike bring me particular joy and I truly feel so lucky to have the opportunity to be the voice and advocate for our furry companions."

Her professional interests include General Practice, Ophthalmology, and Dermatology. She is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Johnston has a 5-year-old feisty Maine Coon, Bowie. A 2-year-old kitty from Grenada, Pippin. And a 7-year-old Golden Retriever Mix recently adopted from Houston Humane Society, Rue. In her free time, Dr. Johnston and her husband who is also a Veterinarian enjoy live music, running, cooking, and traveling.

" Dr. Johnston and all of the staff were amazing! They answered all of my questions and were very kind to my puppy. Dr. Johnston and Emma were so kind and helped answer all of my questions. The staff here is efficent, patinet, and kind. I highly recommend bringing your pet here for treatment. "
